I will be giving a review on an album by Alessia Cara titled Know It All. Alessia Cara is a female R&B artist new to the scene. She is most famous for her song ‘Here’, which reached top ten in the U.S. and top twenty in Canada. Before Alessia Cara could be heard over the radio she was heard on YouTube with her numerous song covers of artist ranging from Amy Winehouse to Justin Bieber. Her song’s lyrics have  particular rhythm that remind me of a poem. The songs on this album tell a story of some sort, with a beginning and an end. They are filled with metaphors and appealing rhymes. Her popular song ‘Here’ caught my attention the second it played on the radio not because of her vocalistic  abilities (although nice), nor because of the unique rhythm, but because of the story. With ‘Here’ Cara sings about a girl who is at a party that she is not too excited about attending. They is loud music that she “doesn’t listen to”,  “clouds of marijuana” kids drinking and and just being annoying. I personally can relate to this girl attending this party. If put in the same environment I think I would use the same words as Alessia Cara to describe it along with  my experience. As for her other songs on the album, they all tell a story with a common theme of be and love yourself, and enjoy the life in front of you. I love the positivity and the catchy lyrics in every song of hers and I hope Alessia Cara is more than one hit wonder.

Classmate I am Thankful For

                   On of the students I am grateful for in my English class would be Jasmine. I am thankful for Jasmine because she is polite, respectful and kind all of the time. When I miss a day of school or if I am late to school she gladly fills me in on what is going on. I am thankful of her because she is very informative and knowledgeable. Sometimes there are parts of a text that I do not really understand and she always offers her interpretation. She has good insight. Her intellectual opinions often help me to develop better conclusions when we are doing group work or other text analysis. I am also grateful for Jasmine because she is concerning and considerate. It is good to know someone who cares about your well being. It is good to know people who notice when you're are not feeling a hundred percent and Jasmine is one of those people. I enjoy her sense of humor and her positive attitude.Jasmine a good friend to have. I am glad I have English with her.

   

What Did Margaret Do??

                       At the end of the story The Short Happy Life Of Francis Macomber Margaret (the wife) shot her husband in the head, aiming for a buffalo, and it killing him. In my opinion, Margaret unintentionally killed her husband. For starters Margaret is known to be a sneaky deceitful, and deceptive. For example she cheats on her husband with the man they hired to help them hunt while they are still on the safari! When confronted about it she insincerely admits to it and even blames the affair on Francis’ earlier coward like actions. Therefore if she was going to do something bold like kill her husband she would have done so in a more secretive devious way. Also Margaret has no problem saying how she feels no matter how cruel or insensitive it might be. In the story she flirts with Wilson in front of her husband. She constantly teased and taunted her husband after he displayed some rather cowardice actions in comparison with his legacy, even though he obviously felt bad about it. Therefore, if Margaret intentionally killed her husband when Wilson made comments about how Francis would eventually leave her anyway after he was dead, I believe she would have responded with more than a simple “stop it”. Also when Wilson asks Margaret “why didn't you just poison him” I believe that should would have said more than “stop it” if she intentionally killed her husband since she has had no problem stating her opinion in the past. Another piece of evidence that supports my argument would be the fact that Margaret did not shoot until the charging buffalo was very close to Francis. In the end when the buffalo and Francis were shot dead they were less than two yards apart! Margaret saw her husband’s life in the balance so she tried to help.

John Proctor Hero or Stooge 

John Proctor is a very important character in the play The Crucible. Some may say his character is that of stooge. I say John Proctor’s character is more similar to that of a hero. In the story John’s wife was arrested and accused of witchcraft. As a result John went to the courts in an attempt to prove his wife’s innocence. In the process of trying to prove his wife’s innocence, the governor presents John with a deal. If John drops his charges they will allow his wife to have her baby before she is hung. Since John originally went to the courts to free his wife he could have taken the offer but he refused. He refused because his friends had wives who were also being falsely accused of witchcraft. John could not just forget about them which was heroic of him. He did not originally go to the courts to assist his friends which supports the fact that John is not a stooge. When the opportunity to fight for the innocent (not just his wife) presented itself, John took it even though the outcome was unpredictable. John even sacrificed his good name in the town in efforts to prove that Abigail is not as honest as she claims to be. He admits to an affair that he kept secret for a long while for the sake of his good image. If you have read The Crucible you’d know that John cares a lot about his name in the town. For example John rips up his written confession of witchcraft because he does not want it to be posted on the church door, for all to see even though he knows that he will die because of it. John would rather die than make lies about him public. This also shows that John is a man of integrity and courage.

There Goes The Neighborhood 

A number of things can occur when two or more groups come to inhibit the same space. One of which would be one group establishes dominance over the other.Once that dominance is established the dominant group may claim to be superior and treat the others as inferior beings. In the cause of the Europeans versus the Native Americans, as soon the Europeans reached the Americas, they immediately presumed superiority over the Natives. For example Columbus went about changing the names of islands, promising the royalty of Spain that he would bring some Native Americans back, upon trade they were given items of lesser value, and some Natives were held prisoner aboard the ships and they eventually were forced into slavery. Another thing that can happen is that the two groups can settle disputes with violence resulting in a number of battles. The battles will not stop until there is only one standing victor. Lastly in some cases the two groups learn to live, work and tolerate one another. A more simple example of this would be found in the workforce.

                 One negative effect of integrating two or more different groups is the depletion of       culture. Sometimes when two or more groups integrate the culture of one eventually outlast that of another. In the end you have two cultures that were once different, either become the same or very similar. It is not always culture that blends together as one when two groups are integrated. Sometimes it is social patterns and behavior. You see this with high school students sometimes. People with different personalities, interests and backgrounds who hang out together long enough will eventually share similar behavioral patterns.

            One positive effect two or more groups integrating would be that one group learns about and embraces the culture of another group. Thus creating a unique experience and general awareness of outside culture and/or way of life.

   What "Deja" Means

 

              I usually do not spend a lot of time talking about myself unless I am relating to something or giving advice: this post is one exception. I will start off with the some of the common information shared with new acquaintances to help paint a picture of who they are as a person such as :likes or favorites, dislikes, and desired career choice.

 

             I love writing, poetry in particular. I have always enjoyed writing but it was not until my eighth grade year that I discovered my love for poetry. In my little poetry notebook I would write free verse poems whenever I felt an inspiration to write; although sometimes the rhythm would be off. Gradually, the quality of my poems got better with every stanza. I became so confident with my poetic ability that I wrote my valedictorian speech in the form of a poem. Another thing that I enjoy is taking care of kids. Although they can be quite bothersome and mischievous at times, I still love them. They are all unique and different in their own little way and worth getting to know. I also enjoy watching television. Some of my favorite TV shows include The Originals, Arrow, and The Walking Dead. Some of my favorite books include The Outsiders, The Giver, and Divergent.

 

             Some things that I dislike are having an idle mind, doing homework, and humidity! One of my pet peeves is being around a really pessimistic person. I also dislike reading secondary historical documents and writing research papers.

 

            When I grow up I would like to be a marriage and family therapist. I am really good at giving advice. Also I'm a good listener, understanding and considerate. On a regular basis, I imagine myself in another's shoes which helps me form an opinion about them. I think I might be able to help a lot of people by using words that will not only reach their ears, but their souls.
